Do We Need God Anymore?

Matt – over at [GBG] Atheist News – had some interesting commentary with his entry God, And Why We Don’t Need It Anymore
Just like children the religious not only find comfort in fictitious entities but they can also be controlled through fear of punishment.
That quote really got my attention, because I think it’s so true and is also related to much of what doesn’t make sense in our society today. I attribute much of the mess that the Bush administration has done to our country (and the world) to fear manipulation – something that I think Karl Rove is a master at.
Religion and the belief in God (or Gods) has the uncanny ability to make people truly sheep in their decision making processes. Guided by superstition and pushed by fear, they engage in the most irrational and illogical decision making, and thus harm everyone in their way.
